Toronto is maturing and John Hillier, Landscape Architect for the Yonge + RICH condos, who has completed several high-profile projects in downtown Toronto, knows this. Hillier was interviewed in late April about the Yonge + Rich project and expressed his reasoning behind the landscape design at that time.
Hillier said that “downtown Toronto living is no longer a stepping stone to the suburbs, it is a place where residents live their lives and call home.” We couldn’t agree more. The actual inspiration behind the Yonge + RICH project comes from, believe it or not, the mixture of the modern urban with its surrounding architectural legacies. Hillier believes that “this unique fusion of towering metropolitan sophistication and gritty heritage context is a real winner.”
But, Hillier’s focus has also been to create a connection within the interior as much as the surrounding exterior. When asked how he captured the “seamless connection between indoor and outdoor space so that residents experience more green spaces and blue views than they are used to seeing in downtown Toronto condos,” Hillier commented that he deviated from the usual condo roof garden by focusing on allowing all residents to have more access to various lounge and gathering spaces on the amenities level.
Overall, the Yonge + RICH project has enough elements to fit along nicely in the Yonge and Richmond neighbourhood. We’re excited to see its progress and we invite you to check back soon for more updates!
